People don’t often reveal their diet but some celebrities are very vocal about their views on animal welfare. Scroll down to see 10 famous vegans you may not know were vegans.

Mayim Bialik

Bialik is known for playing neuroscientist Amy Farrah Fowler in Big Bang Theory. Handy for Bialik’s role in the series, she’s also a neuroscientist in real life. Not only is she a vegan, but she has also written a vegan cookbook too. Her book is called Mayim’s Vegan Table which contains 100 plant-based recipes.

American musician Richard Melville Hall, known professionally as Moby, has been a vegan since 1987. He tells his route to veganism in his memoir Porcelain.

Canadian film director James Cameron, you may know for directing the Terminator and Aliens franchise, Titanic and Avatar, has been a vegan since 2012. Similarly, his wife Suzy Amis Cameron is also a vegan and she co-founded a school with her sister which became the first vegan K-12 school in the US.

Well-known English Hollywood actor Benedict Cumberbatch plays Dr Strange in the Avengers franchise and Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. Moreover, according to various interviews, he follows a plant-based diet.

You may recognise actress Rooney Mara from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She’s a vegan and the founder of a vegan clothing line called Hiraeth Collective. Additionally, she’s an animal rights activist and she has co-narrated an Australian animal rights documentary named Dominion. Mara is married to another vegan celebrity Joaquin Phoenix and they have a son.

Lewis Hamilton

Seven-time Formula 1 Champion Lewis Hamilton said in an interview in 2017 that he has become a vegan. Hamilton has also launched a vegan burger restaurant chain Neat Burger in 2019.

Did you recognise those big names?

There are a lot of other big names that are trying to eat a plant-based diet but not all can stick to it. That said, there seems to be an uptick in veganism in recent years so hopefully, there will be a lot more people with kind hearts soon.
